FIVE4DEMOCRACY

Project objective

In the FIVE4DEMOCRACY project, we connect the past with the present and the future. Together with our partners from Italy and Catalonia, we create a space for reflection on the impact of totalitarian regimes on European societies, analyzing the cases of Poland, Spain, and Italy.

Our goal is to build active citizenship through historical education, the development of digital skills, and the promotion of democratic values.

We believe that understanding history—especially its darkest chapters—is crucial for shaping an informed and engaged society. Together with participants, we explore how mechanisms of oppression and violence reappear in new forms, such as xenophobia and hate speech, and how we can counteract them.

FIVE4DEMOCRACY project logo

The project logo symbolically reflects its main principles and values. The books depicted in it refer to the importance of historical memory and the learning process – the foundations of conscious citizenship. The flags of Italy, Poland, and Catalonia represent our three partners and indicate the international dimension of our cooperation. The white dove is a universal symbol of peace, harmony, and democracy—values that are at the heart of our project. Set against a blue background, reminiscent of the sky that belongs to all people, it emphasizes the openness and forward-looking nature of the project.

Project activities

Our project focuses on researching the history of dictatorial systems in Europe and strengthening active citizenship using modern technologies and artificial intelligence. As part of the project, we are implementing, among other things:

Research and historical analysis (November 2024 - May 2025)

At this stage, we are working with groups of adult participants in each of the partner countries. We are focusing on analyzing periods of dictatorship in Poland, Spain, and Italy, with particular emphasis on human rights violations and the role of historical memory in building contemporary civic identity.

Workshops in Poland (May 2025)

The international meeting in Poland will combine educational visits to memorial sites with reflection on European values. Participants will also take part in training on the use of artificial intelligence in civic education, which will enable them to develop innovative approaches to working with adults.

Citizenship pathways using ICT and Artificial Intelligence (September 2025 - February 2026)

The final stage of the project will involve educational activities using modern technologies to promote active and participatory citizenship.
